NPRA Performing Oriental Roller
Certification/Judging System
Following is the system by which the NPRA shall certify Performing Type Oriental Rollers. All judges for the NPRA shall be certified and approved by the NPRA Board of Directors prior to any judging of birds.
First and foremost only pure Oriental Rollers will be eligible for scoring and certification through the NPRA. In order to ensure the purity of the birds being judged the judge shall establish the following two criteria which the birds MUST meet before being released for performance judging.
1) Oriental Rollers shall exhibit more than 12 tail feathers. There shall be no maximum number of tail feathers allowed, but birds must have at least the minimum 13 tail feathers.
2) Pure Oriental Rollers shall be completely void of an oil gland normally found at the base of the tail.
Once the NPRA attending judge has verified the above items, he/she may then proceed in judging the birds according to their individual aerial performance. Breeders may fly Oriental Rollers in kits of one or more, but it would be to the breeders advantage to fly smaller numbers of birds so as to more accurately judge individual birds performance. Breeders may fly any number of kits in one fly, time permitting.
In order for birds to be scored and certified through the NPRA, the following rules shall be adhered to:
| 1) In attendance at the fly which
the birds will be scored shall be the NPRA attending judge (who shall
also be a member of the NPRA) and one additional witness who shall be an
NPRA member, but not the breeder of the birds being judged. Both
of these people shall sign the certificate if any bird or birds receive
the minimum number of points required by the NPRA to be certified.
A complete judging form will be filled out by the judge and submitted with the NPRA certificate to the NPRA Secretary. Upon reviewing these, the Secretary shall sign the certificate and mail it back to the breeder. Only NPRA certificates signed by 1) the attending judge, 2) the NPRA member who is a witness, and 3) the NPRA Secretary shall be valid. |
| 2) Birds will awarded 1 point for
each aerial acrobat performed which shall include, but not be limited
to, side rolling, back rolling, linked up tumbles, spins, spirals, and
any combination of the above feats.
Birds will be awarded double points at the completion of each fly if the birds either a) fly for 45 minutes or more and/or b) are flown from a portable kit box. Birds shall earn a minimum of 25 points to be certified by the NPRA. |
| 3) In order to be certified, the breeder must indicate to the attending judge which birds are to be considered for certification. Certificates and judging forms will indicate the birds age, sex, color, and band number. |
