NPRA Individual Bird Fly Rules

One of the main goals of this organization is to establish a point system by which individual birds can be judged and scored according to the quality of that bird and birds of high quality can be certified as well.  This will include all Birmingham Rollers, North American High Flying Rollers, and any families or sub-families within each.

There is a similar system for scoring and judging Flying Type Oriental Rollers.  The system for these is on a different page.  For this page we will discuss the system for Birmingham and N.A.H.F. Rollers.

We have decided that you would need to be a member of the NPRA in order to participate in the competition and certification events.

Following are the certification procedures we have adopted at this time.

1.  Judges:  We would like to eventually see a minimum of two qualified judges per state.  Only NPRA judge's findings will be considered for certification of birds.  If a bird is good enough to receive an NPRA certificate, it would be required to have two signatures on the certificate awarded that day; one by the judge and the second by another breeder other than the owner of the birds being flown that day.  Upon completion of the judging, certificates and scoring sheets will be sent in so the NPRA President and/or Secretary will also sign the certificate.  At this point, it will official.
2.  Birds need not be flown in large kits to be judged.  Birds will be flown in a minimum of 3 bird kits.  The judge would, however, need to know which bird(s) he is judging if a kit is flown.  There is no maximum number of birds that can be flown, but it would be to your advantage to fly smaller kits so the judge can better accurately see the bird you wish to have certified.
3.  Birds must roll a minimum of 10 feet to be scored.  This is the minimum depth so the judge can accurately see the quality of the roll in the bird or birds being judged.
Following are the two certificates we will use for our judging system:

Silver Certificate

Gold Certificate

Birds will be scored on a scale of 1 to 10 points in the following areas.  10 is the ideal in each area.

Velocity:  1 - 10 points
Control:  1 - 10 points
Style:  1 - 10 points

When judging is complete, the totals on each area will be added and a score.  Birds much earn a minimum of 25 out of 30 possible points to be certified.

This certificate is designed for deeper birds that are able to exhibit a high quality performance in the air.  Birds absolutely MUST meet the minimum 25 out of 30 points in order to be scored any further.

If the bird or birds meet the minimum 25 out of 30 points, the bird that is being considered for certification will earn an additional 5 points per 10 feet rolled above the 10 foot minimum.  Here are some examples:

40 feet = 15 points
50 feet = 20 points
60 feet = 25 points and so on.....

This depth score will be added to the score from the top 3 areas and a total score will be recorded.  Birds that earn a minimum of 45 points will receive a gold certificate.

If you have any questions or comments regarding this system, please let us know.

Thank you,
NPRA Board of Directors
